Miksang

This photograph of the school drinking fountain shot from the view one would see when drinking out of the fountain. Usually I associate public drinking fountains as something impure, gross, and not very appealing. In a way it is showing the truth of pure perception because it is what we see in that moment, however, this photograph renders the drinking fountain artfully in a way that it is not true in pure perception.

This is a photograph of the fence at the back of the school leading to the track field. Fences to me is seen as an obstacle that I must deal with. This is showing the truth of pure perception, nothing added, nothing missing. But once again the composition of this photograph shows a more artistic perception of the fence, different than the normal perspective we see everyday.

This photograph is of a crack in the pavement leading towards the van in the background. I associate cracks in the ground with ugliness and destructiveness. This does record the truth of pure perception very well in this photograph, it shows the destructiveness and ugliness clearly.

This is a photograph of dried, dead roses. I associate roses with their short lived life. So I dry them upside down so they can "live" longer. Although it is not fresh or living, it still captures the beautiful shape and colour of the rose, in a way it is terrible beauty. I think this photo captures the truth of pure perception well because nothing is made up, it is dead, dried roses.

This photograph is of a close up of a clock. I associate clocks with time, and time is shown on clocks by the hands. I took this photo with this composition because when one looks at a clock, we mainly pay attention to where the hands are, not the rest of the clock. I think this photo captures the truth of pure perception because it is what we see in that moment of checking what time it is. It captures the moment, and the feeling of when one looks at the clock.

This Miksang project has opened my eyes to the little things that I never noticed before. When I paid attention to every moment, and thought about the composition of what I saw, I became mindful of my surroundings. This helped me relate my perspective of my mindful moments to the photos I took, for when I noticed something I have never noticed before, I captured something beautiful and true.
